Up in the Air...first formed in the early 80’s and has evolved with the various personnel changes over the years. Originally comprised of acoustic guitar, flute. violin, and congas, the band's evolution over the years has included electric guitar drums, trumpet, trombone, sax, and harmonica. They have always featured their unique, upbeat, danceable sound mixing their original material with some familiar favorites.
They have played many local venues during this time such as Castoro Cellars, Bethel Rd Distillery, the Merrimaker Beer Garden, Mulligan's Grill, Broken Earth Winery, Summerwood Winery, as well the Paso, Atascadero and Grover Beach Concerts in the Park, the San Luis Obispo Concerts in the Plaza, and played at the very first Whale Rock Music Festival (then known at Beaverstock).
The current line up is John Beccia on nylon guitar, keyboards, melodica, banjo and vocals, Crystal Bradshaw on vocals, Phil Gross on Bass, Mike Milanesi on drums and vocals, Victor Rocha on congas, timbales and percussion, and David Singer on flute, electric guitar and vocals.
In 2025, the band released it's 15th CD "Wanted Mostly Alive" which is a compilation of live recordings from 2022 thru 2025, and can be found at the following link......https://upintheair.bandcamp.com/album/wanted-mostly-alive.
With all the changes through the years, Up in the Air has retained their original vision of mixing varied musical influences into their compositions which balance structured and arranged parts with the excitement of improvisation.
